Switching FAQs

Will I lose my number if I switch?

No — if you port it. Give your new carrier your account number and transfer PIN, and they move the number for you. Your old account closes automatically when the port finishes. Don't cancel before porting.

Can I switch if I still owe money on my phone?

Yes, but your old carrier will bill the remaining device balance when you leave. Some switch promos (T-Mobile Keep & Switch, AT&T's switcher payoff) reimburse up to $800 per line — submit your final bill within the promo window.

Is prepaid data slower?

It can be deprioritized in very crowded places on the cheapest tiers. If you attend stadiums, commute at peak, or work from your hotspot, pick a premium-data switch plan (Visible+, US Mobile Premium, Fi) — still far cheaper than legacy postpaid.

How long does switching take?

eSIM ports between major carriers: 10–30 minutes typically. Landline / VoIP numbers and Tracfone-family ports can take 24 hours. You'll have dual service briefly — keep both SIMs on until the port confirms.
