About Switch & Save
Switch & Save is an independent comparison site for US cell phone plans. It exists for one specific reader: the household still paying a legacy postpaid price — or sitting on an outdated prepaid plan — for coverage it could get for far less on the very same towers.
Who we are
We're a small, independent site — not a carrier, not a carrier's storefront, and not owned by any network operator. We started Switch & Save after doing the math for friends and family and finding the same pattern over and over: a $50–$110 monthly postpaid line, a phone that was already paid off, and a $25–$40 plan on the identical network — a saving of $35–$65 a month on that one line that the person had simply never been shown. Everything on this site is built to close that information gap.
What the site does
- A plan finder, not a plan list. You enter the bill you pay today, your line count and how much data you actually use, and the finder returns up to three matched picks — one that saves money, one that's an upgrade, and one that costs about the same with better features.
- Step-by-step switching guides. Full articles on leaving specific carriers — AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket, Red Pocket, Tracfone / Straight Talk and more — covering unlock rules, transfer PINs, timing and the traps that stall ports.
- An APN settings library for fixing data, MMS and hotspot problems after a switch.
- Supporting comparisons — VPNs, password managers and accessory categories — for the setup work that naturally follows a switch.
How we pick and rank plans
Our catalog is deliberately narrow. Every carrier in it can be bought and activated fully online — no store visit and no dealer. Store-first brands are left out on purpose, because a switch you can't finish from your couch is a switch most people never finish. Within the catalog, ranking is done by rules, not by hand:
- Your data use sets the shortlist first. Heavy users are matched only to unlimited plans; moderate users are matched to 35GB+ or unlimited plans, because more data than you'll use is fine when the price is lower or similar — and you'll always see 2–3 options so you can choose between saving more and getting more.
- Family pricing is applied only where a carrier publishes it — multi-line rates, add-a-line prices and group totals come from the carriers' own published pricing, and the card says when family pricing has been applied.
- Each of the three slots is filled only when a plan honestly fits it. If nothing in the catalog is a genuine step up from what you pay, you won't see an “upgrade” pick invented to fill the space. Sometimes the honest answer is that your current family plan is already well priced — our Cricket guide says exactly that about its 4-for-$100 pricing.
- Prices are the carriers' published prices (autopay pricing where noted, before taxes and fees), and our guides date-stamp when prices were last checked.
How we make money
Switch & Save may earn an affiliate commission when you buy a plan, product or service through links on this site. The commission is paid by the carrier or retailer out of their side of the transaction — it is never added to the price you pay, and the plan costs exactly the same whether you arrive through our link or type the carrier's address yourself. That's the whole business model: no subscriptions, no selling of reader data, no charge for the finder.
Editorial independence
Commissions do not buy placement. The finder's three slots are filled by the matching rules described above — a carrier cannot pay to be the Save pick, and carriers and retailers do not review, approve or edit our guides before publication. Where a cheaper plan has a real trade-off — data deprioritization in crowds, chat-only support, a perk that doesn't follow you — we say so in the guide, because a switch that saves $40 a month and loses the one feature you relied on is not a saving. If a carrier pays us nothing at all, it can still rank first; if it pays the most, it still has to fit your bill, your data use and your network to appear.

Our opinions, not advice
Everything on Switch & Save — the plan finder's picks, our rankings, the blog posts and switching guides, and the VPN, password manager and accessory comparisons — reflects our own opinion, based on carriers' and providers' published information at the time we checked it. Savings figures are estimates. None of it is financial, legal or contractual advice, and it doesn't replace reading a carrier's own terms. Before you buy, switch or sign anything, verify the final price, taxes and fees, coverage, promotional terms and contract details directly with the carrier or provider.
Keeping things current
Plan prices, promotions and APN settings change often, and no comparison site can outrun that entirely — which is why our guides carry “prices checked” dates and why we tell you, in the footer of every page, to verify final pricing, coverage and terms on the carrier's own website before you switch. Spotted a price we've missed or a step that's changed? Let us know through this site and we'll re-check it.
